Managed displacement refers to when a species may need moving from a development project or area – species commonly moved include slow worms, common lizards and water voles.
Eco Site Solutions use passive methods for this displacement to expose the animals being moved to the least physical and mental stress and and associated harm possible.
These sensitive habitat manipulation techniques are frequently associated with low level physical capture and translocation, which results in reduced levels of physical effort being required. This means the cost of translocating protected species can be greatly reduced along with sustaining the animal’s wellbeing. As with many aspects of displacement or relocation, hefty fines can result for individuals or companies if this is not handled according to Environmental legislation, in a correct and sensitive manner.
Eco Site Solutions can also assess the adjacent habitat to your site or structure and the population status of the species being encouraged to passively move. Moving animals into areas that are either an unsuitable habitat or a suitable habitat that is at it’s peak population capacity, may put the welfare of the species being encouraged to move at risk – again running the risk of fines and/or imprisonment if not dealt with correctly.
We have carried out managed displacement on many projects and even used this as an alternative to amphibian and reptile fencing in some cases. If your project meets the strict criteria, environmentally, managed displacement can be used in conjunction with wildlife fencing to further speed up this process.
